New Composting Workshops with al-Khalifa Residents!
10 Aug, 2025
The latest series of workshops organised by the Khalifa Heritage Greens team centred around organic composting and its vital role in improving soil fertility and overall farming quality. Participants from the local community in al-Khalifa neighbourhood were introduced to various composting methods, including vermicompost, bokashi, and the Berkeley technique, using household organic waste.
The team discussed with residents how to separate household waste and recognise the essential elements required for producing high-quality compost. Residents sort and deposit organic waste at the local waste collection room, where it is processed in the composting units. The team tracks the initiative’s impact.
A selection of households were provided with training kits for producing vermicompost at home, enabling an exchange of knowledge among participants and further strengthening community awareness of sustainable urban farming.
The Khalifa Heritage Greens Project is run by Megawra and funded by international programs affiliated with the U.S. Forest Service.
