Woven Stories exhibition and workshop
27 Feb, 2026
We’re looking forward to welcoming you to the Woven Stories exhibition and workshop.
We will begin with a short tour inside Beit al-Saliba and its rooftop overlooking the Citadel, minarets of Shaykhun mosque, and Sabil Umm Abbas. Afterwards, the women will share their relationship with the khayamiya (traditional appliqué tentmaking craft), their work, and examples of artistic projects they have taken part in. Khayamiya is considered one of the most important visual elements of Ramadan celebrations in Cairo’s streets, traditionally used to produce decorations and Ramadan charity tents.
At the end of the day, each participant will try making their own unique khayamiya piece by hand under the guidance of a group of al-Khalifa community women artisans working in the khayamiya craft as part of the Heritage Crafts Project by Athar Lina.
Date: Tuesday, March 3 from 8 PM to 11 PM
This event is part of al-Khalifa Tours program run by the Built Environment Collective, and all proceeds allocated will support the sustainability of the initiative's educational and community programs in al-Khalifa neighbourhood.
