Al-Imam al-Shafi`i Cemetery, also known as al-Qarafa al-Sughra, is the city of the dead and the living, and a blessed site in the heart of Cairo. In the cemetery, we will visit the shrines of women and men from Ahl al-Bayt who came seeking shelter in Egypt during al-Fitna al-Kubra. The cemetery is also home to many Egyptians who lead simple lives and wished to rest in peace near the blessed Imam al-Shafi`i. Also buried in the cemetery are kings and rulers, as we will see in the impressive Hawsh al-Basha also known as, Madafin al-Familia (Tombs of the Family). Last and certainly not least, we will visit the mausoleum of al-Imam al-Shafi`i built more than 800 years ago by Sultan al-Kamil al-Ayyubi, which was returned back to its grandeur after the conservation project completed by Megawra from 2016 to 2021.
