“The painted wood interior of al-Imam al-Shafi’i Dome in Historic Cairo: Discoveries and Observations from the Conservation Project”

The al-Imam al-Shafi’i Dome is a treasure that we continue to highlight even after the conservation project and creation of the visitors’ centre.
We are pleased to share that May al-Ibrashy and Amina Karam will be presenting their paper “The painted wood interior of al-Imam al-Shafi’i Dome in Historic Cairo: Discoveries and Observations from the Conservation Project” at the online conference for “Islamic Medieval Wall Paintings: towards an Interdisciplinary Approach,” taking place on September 4-5, 2025, and organised by the University of Bamberg.
The paper sheds light on key findings from the conservation of al-Imam al-Shafi’i Dome (2016–2021) implemented by Megawra within the framework of the Athar Lina Initiative.
