A three-hour masterclass where participants will be exposed to the art of storytelling and its practices. The Egyptian storyteller Chirine El-Ansary will start with a short performance inspired by the history of Historic Cairo and the people who live in it. The performance will be followed by a discussion about how the art of storytelling weaves history and personal experiences, producing a unique story and experience each time. Time: Tuesday the 20th of Augusts, from 6pm to 9pm Location: 2 Darb al-Shaykh Khalil, In front of Sabil Um 'Abbas, off Saliba Street. https://www.google.com/maps/@30.0308053,31.2524306,21z Chirine El Ansary is an Egyptian storyteller who studied at Jacques Lecoq’s International Théâtre School and worked as an actress in Cairo’s Independent Theatre. She leads workshops in performance and storytelling in various countries for a diversified audience; from teenagers and young adults in the Egyptian Oasis, to public school teachers in Alexandria to professional performers, animation artists or architects. In 1995, Chirine started performing in ancient buildings in the heart of the old city of Cairo as well as in the streets, markets and old palaces of Cairo, Damascus and Aleppo. Her radio work includes acting in a BBC production of The Trilogy by Naguib Mahfouz and regular recordings of her own cycles of stories for RFI/MC-Doualiya. Her contribution to Megawra and Athar Lina includes giving performing workshops to architects, leading a team gathering stories from El Khalifa district in Islamic Cairo: the stories are then adapted into performance material and performed to al-Khalifa residents. Chirine is currently a PhD candidate at Goldsmiths College University of London. Her practice-as -research PhD is based on her experience as a storyteller, a One Thousand and One Nights’ performer and specialist since 1993.
