The 11th edition of al-Khalifa Summer Camp has commenced!
01 Aug, 2025
The 11th edition of al-Khalifa Summer Camp has commenced with days filled with learning, creativity, and fun. Over the past two weeks, participants explored the themes of sustainability, food security, and sustainable economy in the context of heritage through various activities and crafts.
The younger participants of the camp uncovered the story of al-Shabasi family, one of the leading grain merchants of the 17th century and visited the remains of their historic mill on al-Ashraf Street in al-Khalifa neighbourhood. Meanwhile, older participants worked on designing a board game that imagines how al-Khalifa can become a more sustainable neighbourhood.
And for the first time, trainees from Heritage Works programme are facilitating the camp activities, bringing energy and creativity to every detail.
Keep an eye out for our upcoming posts, we’ll be sharing more stories and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the children’s journey as they work on building “al-Khalifa Sustainable Museum”
Al-Khalifa Summer Camp 2025 is run as part of Athar Lina’s Heritage and Climate Project - Erth under the supervision of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities with funding from the British Council's #CulturalProtectionFund, in partnership with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
