Tracing Inscriptions Tour & Workshop

Join us for our tour, “Tracing Inscriptions”, and discover with us the inscriptions found on various historical monuments. The tour will be followed by a workshop on the principles of Arabic calligraphy and another on stucco carving, over two days. Tour Schedule: Day One: The day starts with a tour at Ahmed Ibn Tulun Mosque to explore the mosque and its significant inscriptions. We pass through Bayt al-Kritliyya, Sabil Umm ‘Abbas, Bayt al-Saliba, and Sabil of Sultan Qaytbay for a glimpse of the important inscriptions. We’ll end our tour at al-Sultan Hassan mosque. During the tour, we will discover the architectural elements and stunning decorations of the mosque, with a focus on its inscription freezes. We will conclude the first day with an Arabic calligraphy workshop, during which participants will learn about the different types of calligraphy, their significance, and history and be trained in these calligraphy styles. Day Two: The second day begins with a stucco workshop, where participants will learn the techniques for making stucco moulds, colouring them, and carving on them. They will carve the texts they learned to write on the first day. The stucco carving workshop will start at 10 AM at Heritage Workspace and end around 4 PM. Day Two: Saturday, October 26, from 10 AM to 4 PM.
