Athar Lina has conducted basic cleaning, crack repair, tiling, plaster, electricity and plumbing works in collaboration with the people of al-Khalifa.
The 150 square meter building was re-opened as a community centre in 2014. The space hosts a cultural program for architects and urbanists, and a social program for the community. The cultural program includes lectures, seminars, workshops and exhibitions. The community program includes heritage education for children, youth and women, public health, craft and design activities.
This building is the anchor space for al-Khalifa Summer Camp and for the educational activities offered to al-Khalifa children. All activities for the benefit of the neighbourhood children are offered free of charge.

Athar Lina is a participatory conservation initiative that aims to establish modalities of citizen participation in heritage conservation based on an understanding of the monument as a resource not a burden.
