About The Project

December 2020 – May 2021; funded by World Learning

This project brought together an American and an Egyptian storyteller in a unique collaboration to develop a joint audiovisual performance in the historical building of Sabil Umm ‘Abbas in al-Khalifa. The performance did not require the physical presence of both performers in the space, but rather over the course of 4 months they virtually collaborated on a joint voice performance. Donna Bryson and Chirine El Ansary shared their thoughts on influential women from their respective home countries; exceptional historical figures who in the nineteenth century – oceans and continents apart – fought for women’s empowerment and were able to leave a positive imprint on their communities. The final output was a 30-minute audiovisual performance that was projected in Sabil Umm ‘Abbas.
