What do you think about architecture education and practice? Do you feel that studying architecture has left you wanting to know more? Do you feel that you did not learn what you wanted or needed? Are the programs too out-of-date? What architecture education trends are you interested in and think are the future of the profession? What is your opinion on architecture education in Egypt? How can it be improved? We invite you to join us and share your thoughts and opinions in our focus group discussion for young professionals and graduating students on Saturday, February 3rd at 4:00pm at Megawra al-Khalifa. The discussion will be used as insight to develop a new architecture undergraduate program in Egypt that is part of a 3-year project IMPAQT (Integrative Multidisciplinary People-centred Architectural Qualification & Training) funded by the European Commission. The event will be in Arabic. How to reach Megawra al-Khalifa: http://goo.gl/lvAu0C Brief description about IMPAQT: Worldwide, the role of the architect has been shrinking. In Egypt, standardised designs led by real estate developers are built following rigid definitions of function, restricting innovation, blind to contextual factors, and hardly sensitive to city dynamics, not only in the environmental sense, but in its socio-physical entirety. This project aims to breed architects capable of initiating a paradigm shift; to become more integrative, multidisciplinary, people-centered, and technologically agile, utilizing ICT enabling technology in a context-sensitive manner to address the challenges facing the building of human settlements that support and sustain the wellbeing, prosperity and fulfillment of human values. A consortium of 11 highly esteemed partners in their fields of specialization, from Europe and Egypt, come together to realize this dream and they are: Egyptian Partners: ● Nile University – NU ● Ain Shams University – ASU ● Suez Canal University – SCU ● Alexandria University – AU ● Housing and Building National Research Center – HBRC ● Engineering Consultants Group – ECG ● The Built Environment Collective – BEC European Partners: ● Technische Universität Wien – TUW ● Universitat Politècnica De Catalunya – ETSAB ● Universität Kassel – KU ● University of Cagliari – UNICA
