Spend the Day in Khalifa 5 - Nas wa Turath events
For the fifth consecutive year, Athar Lina initiative celebrates al-Khalifa's heritage through the اheritage promotion event (Spend the Day in Khalifa). The two day event will host activities in the areas of al-Khalifa and al-Imam al-Shafi'i, organized by the Athar Lina Initiative, the Ministry of Antiquities and Cairo Governorate.
Events include:
1- Guided Tours and heritage activities
- Squares and Markets: from al-Sayyida 'Aisha square to Khalifa Community Center through Bab al-Qarafa, al-Rumayla Square and al-Sayyida 'Aisha Market.
- Al-Khalifa and Athar Lina: showcasing the heritage of al-Khalifa and the work Athar Lina is doing to preserve it.
- Al-Khalifa treasure hunt - in which families get to know al-Khalifa by competing to find its hidden gems through solving a set of clues and riddles.

2- Musical performances:
- Mohammed Khalifa, Mahraganat in Megawra al-Khalifa.
- Oscar March Band, which is planned to be held in the form of a musical tour going through al-Khalifa streets from Darb al-Husr to Khalifa Community Center, passing by al-Khalifa market and Ibn Tulun Street and Darb al-Masdud.

3- Opening of the Imam al-Shafi'i Dome for the public, to present the Ibn 'Abd al-Hakam Shrine excavated by al-Imam al-Shafi'i Conservation Project run by Athar Lina Initiative under the supervision of the Ministry of Antiquities and funded by the US American Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation. The excavation is open daily from the 4th to the 9th of December from 10 am to 4 pm, except Friday from 1 pm to 4 pm. Guided tours to al-Shafi'i and surrounding sites will also be organized on the second day of the event, one for the area's residents, and the other for visitors, participants will be transported by buses from al-Sayyida Nafisa Square to al-Imam al-Shafi'i and back.
4- Craft exhibition in Megawra al-Khalifa on Friday then Darb al-Husr on Saturday concurrent with sports activities for kids in cooperation with "Nafas" in the same playground.
5- Athar Lina's Khalifa Shopfront Project- Over two weekends, volunteers and artists collaborate with local craftsmen and kids from al-Khalifa to paint and decorate selected shops. For more details:

For the second consecutive year, the event is held as part of the Egypt Heritage Network in the "Nas wa Turath" event, under the supervision of the Ministry of Antiquities and with the support of the Danish Egyptian Dialogue Institute.
This year Nas wa Turath involves 12 initiatives from 7 different Egyptian Cities.

Athar Lina is a participatory conservation initiative to establish modalities of citizen participation in heritage conservation based on a vision of heritage as a resource not a burden. It has operated in al-Khalifa since 2012. Work includes conservation and rehabilitation, heritage education, and integrated development through craft and tourism development and urban upgrading.
