Blue Architecture : Hydro-logical Design for Urban Watersheds
05 Apr, 2017
Talk and Discussion: Blue Architecture :Hydro-Logical Design for Urban Watersheds Brook Muller, University of Oregon *The Second public lecture of the International School "Khalifa Heritage and Environment Park" within the framework of Athar Lina's Groundwater Reseach Project. Building upon 25 years of practice and teaching experience, Brook Muller will describe ways site scale design interventions can support broader scale (urban) ecological processes. He will also discuss the exciting design implications of adopting a water centric approach to urban architectural design. Brook Muller is Professor of Architecture, Core Faculty member in Environmental Studies, and Director of the Graduate Certificate Program in Ecological Design at the University of Oregon. Brook’s research addresses ecologically responsive, systems oriented design, with an emphasis on synergies between sustainable architectures and climate adaptive urban landscapes. From 1993-1996, Brook worked with Behnisch Architects in Stuttgart, Germany, serving as co-project leader on the IBN Institute for Nature Research, a European Union pilot project for human and environmentally friendly building. In 2009, Brook was awarded the Campus Compact Award for Civic Engagement in Sustainability. Brook is the author of Ecology and the Architectural Imagination (Routledge 2014). He also served as Interim Dean of University of Oregon’s School of Architecture and Allied Arts from 2014-2016. This project builds on five years of experience of Athar Lina Initiative in Khalifa, through integrated work that conceives of heritage as a vehicle for development. It is organized by Megawra-Built Environment Collective under the supervision of the Ministry of Antiquities and Cairo Governorate and funded by the American Embassy and the American Research Center in Egypt. The project represents a partnership with the University of Oregon and Cornell University in collaboration with Takween Integrated Community Development. *The lecture will be in English. *Location: Megawra al-Khalifa (Khalifa community center) A Google map showing the directions to Megawra al-Khalifa:http://goo.gl/lvAu0C
